Exploring Interactions is a course with no predefined design goal. Students were given freedom of choice to explore a context, research, and formulate a design goal. The theme of this course was Balance.
While exploring, I found Delft Market as a very rich context. Every Thursday, the streets of Delft transform into a vibrant, social space for the community. The Delft market, which is located in the city's center, is a well-known tourist attraction. There will be a ton of vibrant flower stalls, vendors selling cheese, fresh stroopwafels, and other local fresh products, as well as a ton of antiques, books, and toys. The market starts at 8 AM and ends at 5 PM.
People visit Delft Market not only for fresh produce but also for the enriching experience created by the vendors. The vendors work tirelessly from 4 AM to 6 PM to provide a rich, varied, and enjoyable experience for their customers by offering help, building trust, and providing information on the produce. Despite this, some customers behave rudely towards the vendors, projecting their unpleasant behavior onto them.
My project focuses on creating an enriching experience and connection between the customers and vendors which helps vendors feel appreciated for their work.
01
EXPLORING
As a designer, I wanted to create a balance in the lives of the vendors. I wanted the customers to realize how vendors put efforts to frame good experiences and find a method through which it can be reciprocated.
02
INTERACTION VISION
Interacting with my concept should feel like 'playing seesaw in the park'
03
PROTOTYPING
Customers found it really playful, fun and interactive. Without any explicit instructions, the customers hit the hand and started having a conversation with the vendors.
